Protecting Our Place

East Yorkshire is a special place to live.

People care about their towns, villages, farms, coastline, countryside and heritage. They want growth that improves communities, not development that changes them beyond recognition.

Graham believes local people should have a proper say over the future of the places they call home.

That is what he hears from residents across Beverley and Holderness.

Protecting the character of East Yorkshire

Beverley and Holderness is not just somewhere people live.

It is farmland, coastline, market towns, villages, churches, hedgerows, open skies and communities where people know their neighbours.

That does not mean nothing should ever change. But change has to fit the place.

New homes should come with proper roads, drainage and services.

Energy projects should not swallow up good farmland or leave villages feeling surrounded.

Flood protection and coastal support should match the risks local people actually face.

And when major decisions are made, the people who live with the consequences should be heard before it is too late.

Graham’s view is clear: East Yorkshire should grow in a way that strengthens local communities, not weakens what makes them worth protecting.

Graham’s record

Graham has been standing up for East Yorkshire because local places should not be taken for granted.

He has:

  • Worked with parish councils and residents to challenge the cumulative impact of large solar developments
  • Pressed for a stronger test so communities are not forced to take one major scheme after another without the whole impact being considered
  • Supported residents in villages affected by major planning and infrastructure proposals
  • Worked closely with parish councils so local concerns are heard earlier and followed up properly
  • Backed farmers and rural communities who protect the landscape, produce food and keep villages alive
  • Continued to support coastal communities facing erosion, flood risk and infrastructure challenges

Graham’s focus is simple: protect our place, back sensible growth and make sure local voices are not ignored

Graham will keep campainging for:

  • Stronger protections against the cumulative impact of large solar farms and infrastructure projects
  • Proper respect for local views in planning decisions
  • Protection for productive farmland, rural communities and village character
  • Support for coastal communities facing erosion and flood risk
  • Infrastructure that works for residents, rather than being imposed on them
  • Regular engagement with parish councils, local groups and residents

Graham will keep listening to communities through village visits, meetings, surveys and parish council engagement.

He will keep raising these issues with councils, Ministers, developers and Parliament so East Yorkshire is not taken for granted.
