Withernsea Sands is expanding its award-winning holiday park in Withernsea, which is marking the start of the new holiday season with the opening of its new holiday homes area, The Hawthorns.
Graham visited the park in advance of English Tourism Week and saw some of the new homes, which have been finished to a very high standard and are now available to book.
Tourism is at the heart of Withernsea’s economy, and Graham is keen to see it expand ever-further. 150 people are employed by Withernsea Sands, 40 of which are year-long, full-time jobs and 110 are seasonal. The park invests heavily in its staff, running a Development and Apprenticeship programme.
Graham has always been a supporter of the area's holiday industry. One of his proudest achievements as MP for Beverley and Holderness was gathering support among Conservative MPs to overturn then-Chancellor George Osborne’s proposed Caravan Tax.
Graham garnered support to show that the caravan and static home industry was vital to areas like Withernsea, and imposing a tax could cause a devastating impact on the tourism industry locally. He was successful and continues to be a strong supporter of the industry.
Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, commented, “Withernsea has been a tourist hot spot for well over a century, and I want to see people choose to come to Withernsea for their holidays far into the future.
“Whether it’s supporting the tourism industry locally or providing more jobs to people in Withernsea, we need more places like Withernsea Sands in the town we love.”
Tilly Davies, General Manager, Withernsea Sands, said,
“We are incredibly grateful to have had Graham visit Withernsea Sands Holiday Park Parkdean Resorts as part of Tourism Week!
“It’s fantastic to work alongside such dedicated local leaders to help drive the economy of our beautiful beachside town.
“Together, we’re committed to supporting sustainable tourism, improving local infrastructure, and creating new opportunities for businesses and visitors alike.
“With continued collaboration, we know that Withernsea can shine even brighter as a top destination for tourists and a great place for our community to thrive!
“Thank you, Graham, for your continued support, and we look forward to working together to make Withernsea an even better place for all.”
Nick Coultish, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Leisure and Tourism at East Riding Council, said, “Withernsea is a beautiful part of the world, and I’m delighted to see ever more visitors travel from far and wide to enjoy the area and experience everything it has to offer.
“East Riding Council has been working hard to promote Withernsea Sands as well as other tourism businesses across the county, part of the Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY), helping to create the best possible environment for businesses to thrive.”
