The future of farmers across Beverley and Holderness will be a focus of a major Parliamentary vote tomorrow as Graham and the Conservatives look to overturn Labour’s vindictive Family Farm Tax.

Despite the Prime Minister and Environment Secretary Steve Reed previously promising to protect farmers, most memorably when Sir Keir Starmer told farmers that ‘family farms aren’t like other businesses. They can’t come back’ at the NFU conference in February 2023, more than 100,000 farms across the country will be hit by new inheritance tax laws.

Graham heard the devastating impact of Labour’s Budget of Broken Promises on East Riding farmers at a meeting in Westminster following the farmers’ rally on 19th November.

The measures pose a serious risk to domestic food security and food prices.

Graham has set up a petition at www.grahamstuart.com/FarmTax, which has been signed by 827 people so far, to help people in Beverley and Holderness show their backing for British farming and oppose the new tax.

And on Wednesday 4th December, Graham will be in the House of Commons to speak up for Beverley and Holderness’ farmers and force a vote on the Family Farm Tax.

The Opposition Day Debate will discuss the Family Farm Tax and give all MPs, including Labour MPs, the chance to say no to the Government’s plans to tax the family farm out of existence.

Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, commented, "It’s Labour’s choice to impose the Family Farm Tax, and it’s a devastating blow to the farms, workers and rural businesses which depend on a vibrant agricultural environment in our rural communities.

“Despite tens of thousands of people descending on Westminster, and hundreds of thousands signing petitions against the Family Farm Tax, the Labour government seems to be intent on continuing with this daft tax.

“On 4 December we’re giving Labour MPs the chance to row back on this decision and, as Jeremy Clarkson said, to do the big thing and change course.”
