Protect Our Place

Beverley and Holderness is already a special place.

The job now is to keep it that way for the generations yet to come.

People choose to live here because of the things that make East Yorkshire different.

The market towns.

The villages.

The coast.

The countryside.

The strong sense of community.

The feeling that this is a place where people still look out for one another.

None of that happened by accident.

It has been built over generations.

That is why decisions about our area matter.

Progress With Local People

Most people are not against change.

They understand that new homes, new businesses, new infrastructure and new energy projects can bring benefits.

But they also expect decisions to be made properly.

They expect local voices to be heard.

And they expect development to respect the character of the communities where people live.

Progress should happen with local people, not be imposed upon them.

That means supporting the right development in the right place.

It means protecting productive farmland.

It means considering the cumulative impact of major infrastructure projects.

And it means recognising that once a landscape is changed, it is often changed forever.

Supporting Rural Communities

Rural life depends on more than fields and farms.

It depends on the institutions that bring communities together.

The village pub.

The local shop.

The post office.

The church.

The school.

The village hall.

When those places disappear, communities lose part of what makes them feel like home.

Protecting rural life means standing up for the services and facilities that help villages remain thriving places to live.

Backing Farmers

Farmers are the custodians of much of the landscape we enjoy.

They work long hours in difficult conditions to produce food, care for the countryside and support local communities.

For many farming families, it is more than a business.

It is a way of life passed from one generation to the next.

Backing farming means backing food security, rural jobs and the countryside that makes East Yorkshire special.

Protecting Our Coast

The Holderness coast is one of the defining features of our area.

It brings opportunities for tourism, recreation and local business.

But it also faces unique challenges from erosion, flooding and changing weather patterns.

Coastal communities deserve the same attention and investment as anywhere else.

Always Local

Every generation inherits Beverley and Holderness from the generation before it.

Our responsibility is to pass it on in good condition to the generation that follows.

That means supporting sensible growth, protecting what makes our area special and making sure local people have a real voice in the decisions that affect where they live.

If there is an issue affecting your community, I want to hear about it.

Your experience helps ensure Beverley and Holderness continues to be one of the best places in the country to live, work, raise a family and grow old.
