Graham is demanding immediate intervention from Downing Street after a full week passed without any government response to a cross-party request to save the INEOS plants at Saltend.
Local leaders sent a joint cross-party letter to Prime Minister Andy Burnham on the 23rd of September asking for an urgent rescue plan, but the Government has failed to reply.
Three major INEOS chemical plants at the Saltend Chemicals Park are being mothballed due to uncompetitive British gas prices, putting 245 direct jobs and the wider Humberside supply chain at severe risk.
The Saltend facility represents a cornerstone of British manufacturing, producing essential chemical feedstocks used in pharmaceuticals, automotive manufacturing, and national defence.
INEOS notes that UK gas can cost up to twelve times the US price, creating an uncompetitive playing field that forces plants to idle their operations despite being among the most efficient in the world.
The request for government intervention follows prominent statements made at the Labour Party conference regarding regional reindustrialisation, local empowerment, and economic growth across all UK postcodes.
Graham said:
"The Government has not responded in a week while a major local and national business is mothballing, putting direct and supply chain jobs at risk.
“We heard great things from Andy Burnham and his ministers at the Labour conference, but that rhetoric is not translating into action.
“There is cross-party support for action but the Government has not said anything, despite wanting good growth in every postcode. Well, in Saltend's postcode, there will not be growth without government action."
Ministers must urgently convene a meeting with INEOS and regional representatives to stop this temporary mothballing from becoming a permanent closure.
