Further good news as Virgin Money agrees to refund 90-year-old funeral fraud victim following Graham’s intervention
A grieving East Yorkshire family has finally received the grants of probate they needed after Graham intervened to help resolve an 18-week delay.
The family had been waiting for probate following the deaths of both parents, putting the sale of their parents’ home at risk and adding to the distress of losing loved ones.
After the family contacted Graham, he wrote to the Probate Office. Within a week, both grants of probate had been issued.
The constituent told Graham how relieved he was to receive the news, saying he could finally relax and begin properly grieving his parents.
The news follows another positive development for a constituent Graham has been helping.
A 90-year-old woman lost money after paying for a funeral plan through Legacy Funeral Directors, which turned out not to exist.
Graham raised her case with Virgin Money, asking the bank to reconsider her circumstances. Virgin Money has now agreed to refund her money.
Graham first highlighted the case earlier this month when he raised concerns about the treatment of the elderly constituent. The bank’s decision means she can now look forward to getting her money back.
The two cases are among hundreds Graham has taken up for residents across Beverley and Holderness.
Graham has replied to 444 constituent emails between 1 and 20 October, dealing with problems including housing repairs, road safety, unpaid wages, disability benefits and access to care.
Residents who need help with a problem involving a government department, public service or other organisation can contact Graham directly.
Graham said:
“When you’ve lost both your parents, the last thing you need is months of uncertainty about sorting out their affairs.
“I’m pleased we were able to help this family get the probate they needed. After waiting 18 weeks, both grants were issued within a week of my intervention.
“I’m also delighted that the 90-year-old lady who lost money through a fraudulent funeral plan is going to get her money back.
“These cases can make an enormous difference to people’s lives. That’s why I take them seriously and keep pursuing them until we get an answer.”
