I understand that the outcome of the referendum remains very important to many people, and I appreciate that some will continue to have different views on whether leaving the EU was the right decision.
In my view, and that of most people in the UK, the decision to leave cannot and should not be reversed. The 52 per cent who voted to leave made a once-in-a-generation choice, and it must be respected.
The Conservative Party remains committed to protecting the freedoms Brexit has delivered. Under Kemi Badenoch’s leadership, the party has set out clear plans to prevent any return to EU rules and ensure Parliament retains full control over UK law. This includes reforming retained EU law in a way that supports British businesses and allows the UK to take full advantage of the opportunities Brexit provides.
I will continue to hold the Government to account for any attempts to bypass Parliament and ensure that the public’s vote is honoured.
