Graham launches petition to stop fuel duty rise hitting rural drivers

Graham Stuart has launched a petition calling on the Government to stop a planned fuel duty rise that could increase costs for drivers, families and businesses in Beverley and Holderness.

Fuel duty has been frozen for more than a decade, with a temporary 5p cut introduced in 2022. The Government is now expected to reverse that cut and increase fuel duty in line with inflation.

In Beverley and Holderness, many residents depend on their vehicles to get to work, run small businesses and support local farming. Limited public transport means driving is often the only practical option for everyday journeys.

Many local tradespeople and farmers have told Graham that fuel costs are already one of the biggest pressures on their businesses.

Residents can sign Graham’s petition below.

Graham said: “People around us rely on their cars. That’s why I’ve launched a petition to stop the fuel duty rise.

“Whether it’s getting to work, running a small business or working on the land, driving isn’t a luxury in Beverley and Holderness. It’s a necessity.

“At a time when families are already feeling the squeeze, raising fuel duty risks adding yet another cost for people who are simply trying to get to work and look after their family.

“I want to make sure the Government understands the real impact these decisions have in rural communities like ours.”

Residents and businesses affected by rising fuel costs are encouraged to sign the petition and share their experience.
