Graham went to Patrington Primary School to meet a group of Year 6 pupils, the Patrington Champions, who have organised a road safety campaign which has made parking around the primary school far safer for pupils.

The group of friends, Archie, River, Florence, Molly and Nathan, were concerned at how cars blocked the road outside the school, of particular concern given that Nathan is a wheelchair user.

The Patrington Champions designed a series of posters, displayed outside the school, and have been putting parking tickets on offending vehicles.

It’s clearly worked, and Graham was shown pictures of drop-off time before and after the Patrington Champions started their campaign.

In a very impressive presentation by the five friends, it was clear that this is a group of young people who care deeply about their community.

Graham had previously been told about the group’s activities and wrote to them in September to congratulate the group. He visited the school in April to discuss Road Safety as part of his road safety campaign.

Graham also met outgoing members of the School Parliament in advance of Parliament Week and answered questions about his role as an MP, locally, nationally and internationally.

Graham said, “The Patrington Champions, Archie, Nathan, Molly, Florence and River are a seriously impressive group of young people.

“Their materials were first class, and I was delighted to pass the quiz they sprung on me with flying colours.

“Their impact has been real, making pick-up and drop-off far safer for all members of the school community.

“I would be tempted to use their expertise to improve road safety around schools all over Beverley and Holderness!”
