Prostate Cancer and Dispose with Dignity Campaign

Thank you for contacting me about Prostate Cancer.

I recognise the importance of ensuring that all men have access to the facilities they need so that they can dispose of their sanitary waste in a safe and dignified way. This responsibility lies with local authorities, but we continue to encourage local authorities to consider such provision in public toilers to support those who may need them.

We are clear that employers must make reasonable adjustments for employees that suffer from incontinence with more tailored employer support to help people better manage their conditions.  For people with incontinence, a reasonable adjustment available would be working from home where they can manage their condition with accessibility to their own toilet facilities and ability to change discreetly.

More broadly, I welcome that since 2010 cancer is being diagnosed earlier, more often, with survival rates improving across almost all types of cancer including prostate cancer. We have joined with Prostate Cancer UK to unveil a £42 million screening trial aiming to find ways of detecting the country’s most common male cancer earlier.
