Graham Stuart MP has helped to organise a “Save Our MIU” rally at Withernsea Hospital this Saturday at 11.00am, as the fight to prevent East Riding Clinical Commissioning Group closing the unit there and in Hornsea intensifies.
Last Saturday there was a huge turnout of Hornsea residents at a rally at Hornsea Cottage Hospital and Graham hopes to see the same, and hopefully more, this weekend. Pictures of Saturday’s rally are attached.
The rallies come as Graham encourages his constituents to write in to the consultation being held by East Riding CCG about its proposed changes, which is running until mid January. Graham is urging people not to use the response survey, which offers no opportunity to object to the planned closure of the Hornsea and Withernsea units, but instead to send in the letter which he is delivering to everyone across Beverley and Holderness, or to use that letter as a template.
Speakers at the rally will include Graham, East Riding Councillor Lyn Healing, Withernsea Mayor Matthew Lloyd and Marian Mead, Chairman of the Withernsea and District Health Forum.
Graham said, “Last weekend the people of Hornsea turned out in large numbers to express their opposition to East Riding CCG’s plans to close their Minor Injuries Unit and I really hope people in Withernsea will do the same on Saturday.
“The fight to save our MIUs is entering a crucial stage and it really is now or never to show that there is no mandate locally for these badly thought out urgent care plans which will leave people in isolated rural communities facing long and difficult journeys to get help, and risks increasing the pressure on both Yorkshire Ambulance Service and A&E at Hull Royal Infirmary.”
