Yesterday Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Minister for Local Growth and the Northern Powerhouse Jake Berry MP visited Beverley to see the £50 million redevelopment plans for Jock’s Lodge. The visit was attended by East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) officials, Graham Stuart MP and Minster and Woodmansey Councillors Kerri Harold and David Elvidge.
After much campaigning by local councillors and ERYC and a meeting with the Secretary of State for Transport by Graham Stuart MP, £40 million of funding was announced by the Department for Transport in May this year to redevelop Jock’s Lodge.
The £50 million redevelopment plans include: a remodelled roundabout, new pedestrian and cyclist road crossing and an extension of the busy dual carriageway.

Graham commented: “I was happy to show the redevelopment plans for Jock’s Lodge to my colleague Minister Berry.
“The works, due to be completed by 2022, will help reduce traffic pressures in Beverley whilst also making the junctions safer for its users. For far too long Jock’s Lodge has been a hotspot for traffic jams and accidents.
“It is after the hard work of our committed local councillors Kerri Harold, David Elvidge and East Riding of Yorkshire Council officials that this money was secured; I want to thank and congratulate them and all others involved in the application.
“I entirely appreciate that whilst the works are being carried out they will no doubt cause disruption to Beverley and the surrounding areas. However, these works are essential and will be extremely beneficial to our town.
“It is absolutely right that the Government is spending this large sum of money to benefit our area.
Minster and Woodmansey Councillor Kerri Harold commented after the visit: “It was excellent to have the Minister Jake Berry MP visit and look over the plans for the upcoming Jock’s Lodge redevelopment. The successful bid of £40 million by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to the Transport Department will help Beverley to be more connected whilst also reducing traffic. The investment championed by myself, other Beverley councillors and Graham Stuart MP is a great success story for our area”.
Minster and Woodmansey Councillor David Elvidge also commented: “The restrictions to traffic flow occurring here at peak times is extremely frustrating to our residents and visitors alike, causing issues for those trying to get to work and those on school runs. The works proposed here will reduce this and benefit thousands of East Riding residents on a daily basis”.
Local Government Minister, Jake Berry MP commented: “It’s great to be able to see first-hand how the redevelopment plans for Jock’s Lodge will help to relieve congestion and improve safety for commuters, shoppers and visitors to Beverley and the surrounding area. Schemes like these demonstrate how the Government is working with local councils to boost economic growth across the Northern Powerhouse and building a Britain fit for the future.”
