Graham visited Patrington Primary School’s Pupil Parliament to work with them to improve road safety in the village.

In March, Patrington Primary School launched their road safety campaign following concerns when pupils are being picked up and dropped off at school.

Graham met with eight members of the Pupil Parliament who represent each year group to hear about their excellent ideas to make roads safer, including staggering drop-off and pick-up times and having designated drop-off points for parents. They were pleased to hear of Graham’s constituency-wide campaign to make roads in villages safer and were happy to join in to improve their village.

Graham was joined on his visit by Helen Murphy, Chair of Patrington Parish Council, and Diane Chapman, Clerk of Patrington Parish Council, who are keen to champion solutions to this issue.

Make Our Roads Safer is one of Graham’s parliamentary campaigns and seeks to empower local communities to show local support for schemes such as traffic calming measures, changing speed limits and installing flashing speed signs. The campaign is to be made up of numerous initiatives in towns and villages including Patrington, Lund and Middleton, with a local champion appointed to gather evidence of local support for a scheme which local people think could make a difference.

Helen Heeley, Chair of Patrington Parish Council, said: “We are grateful to Graham for coming to Patrington to support the school in our campaign to make our roads safer. With his help we will bring the changes we need to ensure every child is safe at the start and end of the school day.”

Graham Stuart commented: “It was great to meet the fantastic pupils and staff at Patrington Primary School to hear their concerns about road safety in the village.

“I’ll be working closely with the local councillors and the school to see what can be done, be it introducing designated drop-off points for parents or staggering pick-up times.

“Local action can make our roads safer, and I urge everyone who has concerns to join the campaign to make our roads safer.”
