Potholes

Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, has welcomed the Government’s announcement that East Riding of Yorkshire Council will be receiving £2.4 million to fix 49,040 potholes in the region.

This will improve road standards for drivers, saving them money on repairs and making it easier to get to work and visit family and friends.

Overall, the Government is investing £200 million to fix 4 million potholes across England. This builds on the £2.7 billion of highways maintenance funding the Government has announced for 2022-2025, ensuring councils can continue to deliver this quality service for drivers across the country.

Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart said: “Everyone in Beverley and Holderness has the right to smooth and safe roads. That’s why I’m pleased that the Government is giving East Riding Council over £2 million to make our roads better for everyone in our area so people can travel to work, the shops and to see their family safely.”

Transport Secretary Mark Harper commented: “Potholes are a blight on Britain’s roads. This latest round of funding shows we are committed to supporting all road users, from motorists to cyclists and bus passengers, and making journeys smoother and safer for all.”

Lyn Healing, ward Councillor for South East Holderness, commented: “It is great the Government is giving East Riding Council £2.4 million to tackle the bane of our driving lives: potholes. Local Government is all about improving people’s lives, including making sure our roads are safe to drive on, so I am delighted action is being taken.”
