Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, has welcomed East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Cabinet decision to approve funding for the Jock’s Lodge Junction improvements.

Jock’s Lodge, the junction between the A164 (Beverley to Humber Bridge) and A1079 (Hull to York), is known locally as a hotspot for traffic and accidents.

In July 2020, following a three-year campaign by Graham and East Riding, the Department for Transport agreed to part-fund the improvements to the junction.

East Riding has agreed to contribute £46.9 million to the scheme, in addition to the £40 million that the Department has previously earmarked for this project.

This is the most expensive road project in the East Riding’s history, and costs have risen ever higher due to inflationary pressures.

The first spades are now in the ground, with a new mini roundabout and bus stop being built at Skidby.

Commenting, Graham said, “Finally, we’re almost getting out of first gear on the road to a safer, better junction at Jock’s Lodge.

“We all know Jock’s Lodge is a nightmare – with long queues at the best of times and, worst of all, horrific accidents and loss of life.

“This scheme has the potential to make Jock’s Lodge into the road we all deserve.

“So much hard work has been done on this, and I will continue to offer whatever help I can to support this landmark investment by both East Riding and the Department for Transport.”

Commenting, Cllr Anne Handley, Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said, “It’s great that after years of delays, Jock’s Lodge is taking a step closer to spades in the ground.

“It will make an enormous difference to road users across the East Riding, and I’m so grateful to everyone, especially Graham, who has helped get us to this point.”
