Graham Stuart MP with Jordan Moor Points of Light Award

Local MP Graham Stuart was delighted to present Jordan Moor with a Points of Light Award from the Prime Minister.

Graham nominated Jordan for this prestigious national award for his tireless work campaigning and fundraising for new defibrillators across Beverley and Holderness.

Since the sudden and unexpected death of his much-loved stepfather, Dr Alan Sykes, Jordan has worked tirelessly to ensure local people have access to a defibrillator should the worst happen.

In his memory, Jordan has raised a staggering £45,000 by holding pub quizzes, coffee mornings and auctions across our area. This money has paid for 21 defibrillators in a number of communities including Leven, Catwick, Long Riston and New Ellerby.

Graham has worked with Jordan to install these defibrillators as part of his CADEY (Community Access Defibrillators for East Yorkshire) campaign. He has found his ideas for how to obtain new funding and wider knowledge on the subject truly invaluable as they work together to ensure every community in the constituency has a defibrillator.

The Points of Light awards was first established by President George H.W. Bush in 1990 to recognise the outstanding voluntary work that individuals are doing every day in our communities. The UK Government launched their own version of this project in April 2014 and Jordan is the 2311th recipient of this award.

Jordan Moor commented: “I am delighted to receive this award in memory of my stepfather Dr Alan Sykes. To date I have raised nearly £50,000 towards installing 21 defibrillators across Yorkshire to help save lives.”

Graham Stuart said: “Jordan is a truly inspirational young man and I am privileged to work with him as part of my CADEY (Community Access Defibrillators for East Yorkshire) campaign. I am very proud to see him recognised by the Prime Minister for his sterling work and I am sure his stepfather, Dr Alan Sykes, would have been very proud of him too.”
