Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, is celebrating some of the wonderful work done for the community by people across Beverley and Holderness.

Earlier this year, Graham asked everyone in Beverley and Holderness to nominate their Community Champions.

Now, Graham is proud to present his list of community champions, each one nominated by their peers.

The local MP has sent certificates to each champion, and hopes to meet them, either again or for the first time, in his regular visits to community organisations in Beverley and Holderness.

The list of nominees is as follows:

Neil Gay, Beverley

For his decade leading Beverley Braves Rugby Club, including building a new clubhouse.

Paul Coe, Beverley

For his work keeping Beverley clean and tidy with the Beverley Wombles.

Diane Berry, Withernsea

For supporting, as a volunteer, the Church in Withernsea in the absence of a permanent vicar.

Cherry Tree Community Centre (Lisa Voase, Jo Ramsay & Helen Rawdon), Beverley

For the Cherry Tree Centre’s work with Beverley’s community, for those in need of food, career and money advice and youth work.

Steve Peirson, Cherry Burton

For being an organiser of countless events in Cherry Burton, including Christmas lights and other events, chairing the Parish Council and much more besides.

Michael Loncaster, Molescroft

For being an inspirational Head of Molescroft Primary, working tirelessly to create a safe, inspirational learning environment.

Mick Robinson, Aldbrough

For running events for the children of Aldbrough.

Martyn Eden, Hornsea

For his work with the Hornsea Urban Gardeners, making Hornsea a town which is always in bloom.

Jacky Stringer, Hornsea

For making Hornsea one of the best presented towns in Yorkshire.

John Whitehead, Skirlaugh

For leading the East Riding Federation of Young Farmers for many years.

Jayne Nendick, Withernsea

For providing vital care and support for Withernsea through SHoRes – a foodbank, social supermarket, working with HEY Credit Union and much more besides.

Darren England, Withernsea

For setting up a veterans group in Withernsea.

Joan Gale, Hornsea

For chairing Hornsea Lions and being on the committee of Hornsea Floral Hall

Harold Jobling, Hollym

For organising events for the rural community in Hollym including events, agricultural discussion groups, outings, education days on his farm and managing the regional agricultural training group.

Graham will celebrate their work individually, through his social media, over the coming weeks and months.

Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart said: “We’re all bombarded by bad news on a daily basis – but wonderful things happen in our community each and every day.

“That’s why I’m celebrating the work of our Community Champions – people who make a real difference to our community in literally countless ways.

“Be it Darren England for his work with veterans in Withernsea, the Cherry Tree Community Centre for providing vital services for Beverley, Jacky Stringer for painting benches in Hornsea or Steve Peirson’s work for the village of Cherry Burton, we live in an area full of wonderful acts of service.

“I applaud each and every one of them, and hope that they serve as an example for all.”
