My Conservative colleagues and I have been consistently clear that we want to see an end to the conflict in Gaza. As you know, the President of the United States brokered a 20‑point plan to end the war in the Middle East. The initial phase of the US‑backed peace plan coming together represents a significant breakthrough, on which we hope a sustainable end to the conflict in Gaza and a better, peaceful future can be built.
The UK should be leading in the delivery of aid to innocent civilians in Gaza. Ultimately, a sustainable end to this terrible conflict must ensure the eradication of Hamas from power in Gaza and the dismantling of its terrorist infrastructure. The Trump peace plan is at a very early stage, and Hamas are brutally executing innocent civilians while the security situation continues to deteriorate. I continue to press the UK Government to step up and work with allies in the region and the United States to bring an end to this violence and to establish the sustainable governance necessary for peace and reconstruction.
I want the ceasefire in Gaza to hold and to transition into a sustainable end to the conflict and cycles of violence. Hamas must stick to the terms of the agreement, return all the deceased hostages to their loved ones, and give them the dignity they deserve. If we are to see a sustainable end to the conflict, Hamas must leave power and their terrorist infrastructure must be dismantled.
I will continue to follow all developments with the closest of interest.
