Parliamentary Assistant

Working For: Rt Hon Graham Stuart MP

Location: London

Salary: circa £30,000

Length of Contract: Permanent Full-time

Job Details

The Rt Hon Graham Stuart MP is looking to recruit an organised, politically aware and highly motivated Parliamentary Assistant to join his team.

This is an excellent opportunity to support the parliamentary work of an active constituency MP. The successful candidate will undertake research, prepare detailed briefings and help ensure Graham is fully informed on parliamentary, policy and constituency matters.

The successful candidate will have excellent research and written communication skills, strong organisational skills, with experience of diary management and the ability to manage a varied workload in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Graham is accurately informed on key issues

Assist in writing external communications including speeches for Graham.

Compilation of briefing packs, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions

Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc. This would include issues of importance both nationally and in the local constituency.

Engage confidentially, professionally, with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, email and face to face

Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including how they impact on the constituency

Help draft amendments for reports and prepare briefing material

Maintain positive on-going relationships with all parties including members of the public, groups, suppliers and Westminster where required

Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, press releases, parliamentary questions etc.

Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries, including campaign emails from constituents.

There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel to the constituency.

To advise and ensure Graham is fully briefed on potential questions and motions to be put to the House

Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed

Arrange parliamentary events and ensure the MP is fully briefed on attendees

Support the work of Graham’s Chief of Staff, Caseworker and Communications Officer.

Closing Date: 31 August 2026 although we reserve the right to close early if the right candidate is found.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will:

Have excellent research, analytical and written communication skills.

Be highly competent in diary management.

Be able to understand complex information and present it clearly and accurately.

Demonstrate strong political awareness, judgement and attention to detail.

Have a good understanding of Parliament, current affairs and the issues affecting Beverley and Holderness.

Be highly organised and able to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.

Be confident drafting speeches, briefings, parliamentary questions and other written material.

Be able to communicate professionally and sensitively with members of the public and external organisations.

Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Be able to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a busy team.

Interviews will take place via Teams on various dates

Expected start date: ASAP
