Rural Broadband

Graham has campaigned hard to secure funding to improve broadband in East Riding. He has highlighted the desperate need for broadband provision to support rural businesses. East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been awarded funding from Broadband Delivery UK and the European Regional Development Fund to deliver a super-fast broadband network across the county. This project is being delivered in phases.  More information about where and when a better broadband service will be available can be found on the Broadband East Riding website http://broadband.eastriding.gov.uk/.

In October 2016, Graham secured a place on the Bill Committee of the Digital Economy Bill, taking forward proposals for a Universal Service Obligation so that suppliers must provide decent broadband to everyone on reasonable request – a development which could make a huge difference.

In March 2017 it was announced that provider Kcom has delivered access to ultrafast broadband to 97% of homes in Beverley.  Graham welcomed the news but emphasised much more needs to be done to deliver better broadband speeds to more rural areas.  He continues to pressure providers, the Council and the Government to do more.

In 2021 it was announced by Openreach that 2895 premises in Beverley and Holderness will benefit from being connect to new, ultrafast full-fibre broadband, capable of delivering speeds upwards of ten times faster than before.
