Five new posties have started work in Beverley, with another eight being recruited, as Graham continues to press Royal Mail over delayed and missing post across Beverley and Holderness.

Graham visited Beverley Sorting Office on Friday 30th October after receiving complaints from constituents who had missed hospital appointments, waited ten days for important letters and struggled with unreliable deliveries.

During the visit, Royal Mail management confirmed that five new postal workers had recently started, with another eight going through the recruitment process.

Graham welcomed the news and thanked local posties for their hard work, but made clear that residents must see a reliable service.

Graham has been contacted by residents in Beverley, Hedon, Withernsea, Easington, Leven, Lockington, Molescroft and Preston about delayed and missing post.

One constituent reported that three bowel cancer screening test kits had failed to reach hospital in time or at all. Another travelled to a breast screening appointment that had been cancelled, only to receive the cancellation letter afterwards.

An elderly Beverley resident had to collect ten days’ worth of post from the delivery depot, including a hospital appointment, energy bills and a vehicle tax reminder.

At the sorting office, Graham spoke to postal workers about the pressures they face and questioned management about staffing, delivery delays and what was being done to put things right.

Royal Mail is introducing new delivery arrangements, with Second Class letters moving to alternate weekday deliveries. Graham stressed that changes to the service must not leave residents waiting longer than they should for important correspondence.

He will continue raising individual complaints with Royal Mail and checking whether the additional staff improve deliveries.

Graham is also encouraging residents who are still experiencing problems to contact him so he can take up their concerns directly.

Graham said:

“Our local posties work hard, and I’m pleased Royal Mail is bringing in more staff. Five have already started, with another eight on the way. That’s welcome news.

“But I’ve heard from people who’ve missed hospital appointments, waited ten days for their letters and even had bowel cancer screening tests go missing. That’s not acceptable.

“My job is to make sure Beverley and Holderness gets the service it deserves. When something goes wrong, I want to know about it, and I want Royal Mail to know I’ll be asking questions until it’s put right.

“I’ll keep working with our posties and Royal Mail management to improve deliveries. And if you’re still having problems with your post, please get in touch. I want to hear about it.”
