Should Beverley become the UK’s first Town of Culture?
Beverley is something special.
Not just a beautiful town, but one that has held on to its identity while so many places have lost theirs.
The Minster. The Westwood. Independent shops still at the heart of the high street. The Saturday market. Georgian streets. Live music in pubs like Nellies and the Monk’s Walk.
This is what people tell me makes Beverley, Beverley.
Backing Beverley’s Town of Culture bid
I am backing Beverley’s bid to become the first ever UK Town of Culture.
This is a chance to:
- celebrate what makes Beverley unique
- support local businesses and cultural venues
- bring investment and visitors into the town
- put Beverley firmly on the national map
But bids like this are not won on paper alone.
They are won on local voice.
Why your voice matters
The Government wants to see that:
- residents genuinely support the bid
- the case reflects what Beverley actually is
- the ideas come from the community, not just officials
That is why I am asking for your views.
What I want to know
I am building a case that reflects Beverley at its best.
Your input will help shape:
- what Beverley should celebrate
- what makes the town distinctive
- what a Town of Culture year should include
- what you would like to see improved
Working together to make the case
I am working closely with:
- Alison Healy, Mayor of Beverley
- Anne Handley, Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council
Your responses will go directly into the bid, and into my representations to the Culture Secretary.
Have your say
It takes just a few minutes to share your view.
Your response will help make sure this bid reflects what Beverley really is, not just what it looks like on paper.
Let’s make the case for Beverley
Beverley has kept its character, its independence, and its sense of place.
This is an opportunity to celebrate that properly and share it with the rest of the country.
If you care about Beverley’s future, I would really value your view.
