Potholes

Potholes: where are the worst roads in Beverley and Holderness?

Potholes are one of the most common concerns raised by residents across Beverley and Holderness.

Damaged tyres, near-misses on bikes, and difficulties for parents with prams are all regularly reported. This is not a minor inconvenience. It affects daily life and safety on roads across the constituency.

What’s happening now

Between 1 May 2025 and 31 March 2026, East Riding of Yorkshire Council repaired more than 32,330 potholes.

This represents a significant effort. However, many residents report that:

  • potholes are reappearing quickly
  • some roads are deteriorating further
  • repairs are often temporary rather than long-lasting

In some areas, conditions are said to be worse than in previous years.

Why local evidence matters

To secure:

  • better long-term funding
  • faster repair times
  • and more resurfacing instead of repeat patching

clear, location-specific evidence is essential.

General complaints are easy to dismiss. Detailed reports identifying specific roads and recurring issues are much harder to ignore.

Report it to the council

Residents are encouraged to report potholes directly to East Riding of Yorkshire Council so they can be inspected and repaired.

You can do so here:

Reporting issues directly helps ensure they are logged and prioritised for action.

How responses will be used

Feedback from residents will be used to:

  • identify the worst-affected roads and junctions
  • raise specific cases with East Riding of Yorkshire Council
  • put concerns directly to Anne Handley, Leader of the Council
  • press Councillor Paul West, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport
  • and raise the wider issue of road funding with the Roads Minister

The aim is to move from general concerns to targeted action.

Have your say

Residents are encouraged to share their experience, including:

  • where potholes are located
  • how long they have been an issue
  • whether repairs have been carried out
  • and how the problem affects daily travel

A response takes just a few minutes and will help build a stronger case for lasting improvements.

Fixing roads properly

Potholes are not inevitable. With the right evidence and sustained pressure, roads can be repaired properly rather than repeatedly patched.

Residents who are experiencing ongoing problems are encouraged to take part.
