Families across Beverley and Holderness are speaking out about the rising cost of everyday life, telling Graham they are being forced to make difficult choices over food, energy and household bills.
Early responses to Graham’s cost of living survey show the pressure many households are under as everyday prices continue to climb.
Jenny in Cherry Burton told Graham the cost of food now forces people to make difficult decisions about what they can afford each week.
Andrew in Beverley said everyday costs are rising across the board, including food, energy and household bills.
Richard in Molescroft raised concerns about supermarket prices and the pressure they are putting on family budgets.
Barbara in Beverley said food costs are the biggest pressure on her household.
Sarah in Beverley told Graham she is worried about rising bills while working on a short-term contract as her employer faces uncertainty.
Graham said the responses show how many families are doing the right thing but still feeling the squeeze.
Graham said:
“People are working hard, doing the right thing and still feeling the squeeze.
“I launched this survey to hear directly from local people about the pressures they are facing.
“Residents across Beverley and Holderness are telling me the same thing. Food, energy and everyday bills are rising and families are under real strain.
“That is why I will keep campaigning for practical action to help households and businesses manage the cost of living.”
Alongside gathering views through the survey, Graham has been campaigning on a number of measures to help ease pressure on households. These include calls to reverse the decision to cut Winter Fuel Payments, opposition to the rise in National Insurance for employers, and concerns about rising council tax bills.
The survey forms part of Graham’s wider work campaigning for fairness for families and businesses facing rising costs.
