Residents in Sunk Island and Ottringham have raised ongoing concerns about the condition of Sunk Island Road and Brick Road, where repeated patching has failed to address long-standing problems.
After hearing directly from residents, Graham has been working closely with Councillors Lyn Healing and Sean McMaster to press East Riding of Yorkshire Council for proper, lasting repairs.
Both councillors have been raising the issue with council officers for some time and share residents’ frustration that short-term fixes have not been enough.
Graham is now writing to residents across Sunk Island and Ottringham to hear directly about their experiences and make sure their concerns are heard loud and clear by those responsible.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has confirmed that Sunk Island Road is now being planned for major treatment in the 2026/27 financial year, delivered in phases. Brick Road is provisionally included in the 2027/28 programme. In the meantime, pothole repairs and inspections will continue.
Graham said:
“People are understandably frustrated. These roads are used every day and patching hasn’t solved the problem. I’m working closely with local councillors and listening to residents to make sure proper, lasting repairs are delivered.”
Councillor Sean McMaster said:
“Residents are rightly concerned about the condition of Sunk Island Road, from Ottringham right through to Sunk Island. There have been numerous attempts at patching in the past, but far more substantial work is needed. I’ve been in discussions with council officers for some time to get this road into the capital works programme, and I will continue to push for action. I’m pleased to have Graham on board and working with us to get this road sorted.”
