Following concerns from Easington Parish Council and a number of residents, Graham, Cllr Sean McMaster and Cllr Lyn Healing met Northern Powergrid to raise concerns about persistent short power cuts in the area.

During the meeting with the local MP, councillors and Northern Powergrid, the company acknowledged that, while power cuts are inevitable in rural areas, they need to do more to provide consistent power to Easington, Skeffling and the surrounding areas.

The power cuts, which have been short but persistent over the course of several months, have been causing residents of the Holderness villages, especially the elderly, to be concerned.

These outages are caused by routine failures of poles and vegetation encroaching on the power lines.

Northern Powergrid has committed to a schedule of works over the coming months to improve the resilience of the power grid.

Graham said, “Having power is the basis for more or less everything in the twenty-first century.

“That’s why it’s so disappointing to hear that people in Easington, Skeffling, Kilnsea and beyond are having regular power cuts.

“Alongside your local councillors Lyn Healing and Sean McMaster, I’m working closely with Northern Powergrid to make sure the works to improve the power network are done and I’m pleased we now have a deadline.

“We’ll be keeping a close eye on how it progresses.”

Graham’s Statement on Welfare Reform

Tuesday, 1 July, 2025
Our welfare system is something we should be proud of, in principle. If you need help, it’s available. Yes, you may have to jump through hoops, but it’s there.  But something has gone wrong with our welfare system: it’s become too easy to game the system and stay on benefits for life.
