Today Graham Stuart MP for Beverley and Holderness chaired a meeting between the Hornsea Hospital League of Friends (HHLF), Councillor Barbara Jefferson and representatives from the CCP, CCG and Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. The meeting helped bring together local people and the relevant local health organisations.
The outcomes from the meeting were that the CCG’s Jane Hawkard and the CHCP’s Andrew Burrell would look into and clarify the costs of renting each of the rooms at the Hornsea Cottage Hospital, as this has been an ongoing issue. The CCG also promised to make it easier for health providers to care for patients at the Hornsea site. Furthermore, the CCG will work with the HHLF to promote the hospital’s services to people in the local community.
Chair of the meeting Graham Stuart MP commented: “I was pleased to chair today’s constructive meeting where all attendees agreed that the Hornsea Cottage Hospital can provide even more clinics and services than it currently does.
“We need to make sure that the community knows just how much the Hospital provides and do what we can to publicise its great facilities. These include: Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Wound Care. “I look forward to working with the CCG, the CHCP, Hornsea League of Friends and the Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust to build on the Cottage Hospitals future care”.
Jane Hawkard, Chief Officer of NHS East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: “I welcome the opportunity to have met with the local community and health partner organisations today and have a conversation about how we balance our resources and workforce across a large geography for the benefit of the whole of the East Riding. We continue to work hard for our local communities and confirmed our commitment to continue to use the great facilities at Hornsea Cottage Hospital for community and mental health services.
“We are pleased to have reached a financial agreement with the current property owner, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust regarding rent costs. This will allow City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP) to use the space more flexibly and CHCP is reviewing opportunities for the provision of community services on-site in the New Year.
“We will work with the League of Friends and our partners to better promote the wide range of services that are available to the local community which include podiatry, wound clinics and mental health services among others.
“As a local health community, we are also working with NHS Property Services and the Department of Health and Social Care to try to keep local ownership of this much loved hospital facility and welcome the support of Graham Stuart MP with this”.
June Barton of the Hornsea Hospital League of Friends commented: “It was an interesting and lively meeting chaired by Graham.
“The positive outcomes are that the CCG and the Humber Foundation Trust are going to look again at the rental costs of the Hornsea Cottage Hospital rooms as this is believed to have been the main issue causing disruption to services.
“The Hornsea League of Friends and I are pleased that the CHCP are looking into how the rooms can be utilised more effectively.
“We also all agreed that there is a need for improved communication and for all stakeholders to stay in touch. We look forward to working with Graham and the involved medical parties in 2019 to help keep Hornsea Hospital a great local service”.
Hornsea and North Holderness Councillor Barbara Jefferson added: “I attended as the ward Cllr for Hornsea and North Holderness.
“Having listened to a very interesting one and half hour meeting I am still concerned that we need to continue to campaign with the local health authorities. We need to make sure that the patients in this area have a good quality of service which they rightfully deserve.
“As a member of the Health and Wellbeing Committee at the East Riding of Yorkshire Council I think this is an opportunity for all parties to work together and continue our endeavour for improved local services”.
