With just over a week to go before a public demonstration Beverley and Holderness MP, Graham Stuart, is calling on residents from both Hull and East Yorkshire to protest at plans to build an incinerator in Saltend.
A previous protest march saw as many as 2,000 people take to the streets in opposition to the joint plan by Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council for a 240,000 tonne a year incinerator.
Graham said: “This is not about saying ‘we do not want the incinerator in our back yard’ this is about getting the councils to understand that technology has moved on and this plan is simply out of date.
“Times have changed and there are better, more efficient, greener and less potentially damaging ways of dealing with waste.”
And he added: “This is something which affects not just the people of nearby Hedon, but of Hull and Holderness too.”
HOTI campaigners are calling upon people to show their opposition to the siting of the waste burning incinerator at Saltend by joining a march on Saturday October 3, 2009, starting from the Hedon Co-Op and marching to the flyover on the A1033.
