Starting today, the 75 bus will run once an hour between Hull, Hedon and Withernsea after 5.30pm. This is a great improvement as before today the bus ran just once every two hours in the evening.
Local MP, Graham Stuart, asked for this route to be upgraded to an hourly service in the evenings during his October meeting with the Transportation Services Manager for ERYC, Colin Walker, South East Holderness Ward Councillors Lyn Healing and Sean McMaster, and Councillor Nigel Wilkinson, Portfolio Holder for Finance and Governance.
This change will help people feel safer travelling to and from the town as they will spend less time waiting for a bus late at night. More people from Hull and Hedon will also be able to enjoy an evening in Withernsea and working in the town will become more convenient.
It will also increase the number of medical appointments people in Withernsea will be able to choose at Castle Hill Hospital and Hull Royal Infirmary without worrying about how they will get home. Good healthcare isn’t only about being able to get an appointment but also being able to get home again in good time. This timetable change will make that easier.
While Graham is delighted with this change, his work to create a more connected Withernsea continues. Graham and the councillors are making the case to ERYC for a Saturday service connecting Withernsea and Beverley, which would allow more people to visit both towns at the weekend.
South East Holderness Ward Councillor Sean McMaster said: “A substantial number of residents rely on the bus services to get to work, to access education and leisure activities. This extension of the service is incredibly welcome”.
Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart said: “Whether you’re getting home from a hospital appointment, attending an event after work or spending an evening with family, I know you want to have a frequent bus service you can rely on.
“That’s why I’m delighted that the Council has listened to my request and is doubling the frequency of the 75 bus in the evenings starting today. There is still more to do to create a more connected Withernsea and I will continue to work with Lyn, Sean and Claire to make the opportunities the town has to offer more accessible for everyone.”
