Delivering a better Withernsea

We can all agree that Withernsea deserves better; it’s a town full of amazing people with the most incredible spirit. That’s why I’m working with your councillors, Lyn Healing, Sean McMaster and Claire Holmes, to make Withernsea the best place it can be.

This starts with creating shorter and more frequent bus journeys connecting Withernsea to Hull, Beverley and Hedon. These changes will give you more choice about where you can work, help you get to the shops quicker, and make it easier to see your friends and family.

I welcome the doubling of the 243 service from Beverley to Withernsea in the evenings and the introduction of a Sunday service from Withernsea to Kilnsea, but this is just the start. We are working to find ways to make it easier for you to travel in the evenings and at the weekend, increasing choice for you and making Withernsea more accessible to the rest of the East Riding.

Whether it be at my Street Surgeries or in my inbox, I hear regularly that you want your medical appointments to be in Withernsea, not a 2 hour bus journey away in Hull. As I write, hundreds of life saving lung health checks are taking place outside the Leisure Centre and we want to build on this.

I have written to the local NHS executives to ask for more X-Rays, dental appointments, and virtual consultations to happen in Withernsea Community Hospital. Lyn, Sean, Claire and I will have further meetings to ensure our town is the local NHS’s top priority.

I’ve already mentioned Withernsea’s incredible community spirit, and we want to harness that so that the pride of the town is visible for all to see. One of my favourite sights is the beautiful Memorial Gardens, which we enjoy thanks to the dedicated Town Councillors. We want to see more of Withernsea bloom, so work is underway to build on existing displays and ensure the town looks lovely. If you’re a keen florist and could lend a hand, please get in touch with the Town Council at [email protected].

This is the start of our plan to make Withernsea the best it can be and I want all of you to get involved in this exciting project. If you had a magic wand, what would you do to improve Withernsea? Let me know at www.grahamstuart.com/Withernsea.
