Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, champions our High Street on Small Business Saturday by promoting the abundance of support available to help them grow and thrive.
Graham knows ambitious businesses are at the heart of our economy and is celebrating the best independent shops in our area through his Best of Beverley and Holderness Awards.
He has received over 300 nominations so far and voting for your favourite shop will begin week beginning Monday 4th December on his Facebook page, with winners announced just before Christmas.
This is just one of the ways Graham, the Government and the Council is helping these vital assets in our community.
Just last week, the Government announced a package of support worth £4.3 billion over the next 5 years, including extending the 75% business rates relief for eligible properties on our high streets until 2025 and making additional support available to a further 5000 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for Research and Development.
This is on top of the Government’s decision to keep the Corporation Tax rate for small businesses at just 19%, one of the lowest rates in Europe.
East Riding Council is also doing a great deal of work to help our entrepreneurs to flourish. They received £1.6 billion from the Government as part of the ‘Love Your High Street’ fund, which has provided over 500 businesses across the region with first class business support since April.
In Withernsea alone, 30 businesses have been given approximately £150,000 of grants in total between them, including the Bengal Lancer, Meridian Centre and Lala’s Ice Cream Shop. They have used this funding in a variety of ways from improving their shop signs to remodelling their premises.
Special advisers are available to help you with a range of questions and opportunities, including guidance on how to apply for grant funding and information about exporting products. Business across Beverley and Holderness can receive this support by contacting East Riding Council by emailing [email protected].
Graham is also doing all he can to help businesses grow. If you would like to invite him to visit, please email [email protected].
Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart commented: “Small businesses are the heart of our communities. They put money straight back into our local economy. They provide jobs for local people. And they make our towns and villages the best places to live in the UK.”
"The Government has done a lot to help, not least freezing corporation tax for small businesses. The Council is pumping money into providing practical support to help businesses grow. And I’m doing what I can to shout about how great our small businesses are. So this Saturday, get out to the local shops and do your Christmas shopping where it will make the most difference.”
