Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, congratulated Tommy Smith for reaching the final of the Film the House Awards, which was hosted in the Houses of Parliament.
Hornsea resident Tommy Smith (19), was one of just four aspiring film directors shortlisted from the whole of the UK for the Best Short Film (Under 19) category. His film ‘You’ was a powerful reminder that we will all struggle with our mental health at some point in our lives and how it is vital we talk to a friend, family member or a trusted person when we do.
‘Film the House’ is an organisation created by the late Mike Weatherley MP to emphasise the importance of the creative industries in a fun and engaging way. It is open to UK based student or independent filmmakers with entrants able to choose to put themselves forward for three categories: Best Film Script, Directors UK Best Film Direction and Best Short Film.
Tommy Smith commented: “I want to personally thank Graham Stuart for the support on the night, some kind words were spoken towards me and my work. I also want to thank the individuals behind the event for having me. I hope to work with our MP within the near future.”
Following the event, Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart said: “It was brilliant to meet Tommy at the Film the House Awards Ceremony. I’m gutted he didn’t win but he did Hornsea and the East Riding proud!”
