When I learned of people’s disquiet about the potential closure of the Withernsea Bus Depot, it was clear immediate action was required if we, as a community, were to have the chance to save it, and the thirty jobs. I spoke to your excellent Councillors, Lyn Healing, Claire Holmes and Sean McMaster to come up with a plan. We met with East Yorkshire Buses’ MD and I arranged a petition on my website to save the bus depot.
It’s a positive that East Yorkshire Buses’ MD has assured us he intends to maintain a presence in the town. But we need to keep up the pressure and signing the petition gives you a concrete action to show your strength of feeling to save Withernsea Bus Depot.
I’ve been astonished by the response to the petition. Over 1,000 of you have signed so far. That’s one in six people in Withernsea.
I’m going to present it to East Yorkshire Buses next week, and it would be great if we can get a quarter of the town, or 1,500 residents’ names by then. You can sign the petition at www.grahamstuart.com/SaveWithernseaBusDepot.
We need to show East Yorkshire Buses that we appreciate their presence in the town and we support the thirty people who work there. I know that, together, we can make a powerful case to keep those thirty jobs right where they belong, in Withernsea.
Yours,
Graham Stuart MP
