Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, was recently treated to a sneak preview of Withernsea’s SHoRes Centre’s upcoming ‘Cycle Café’, part of the centre’s initiative to create a host of new amenities including a Cycle Workshop and Cycle Library.
The new offer comes after SHoRes’ acquisition of a fleet of bicycles for the community to hire, with the aim of boosting activity levels in Withernsea as well as improving access to job opportunities, by making it easier for those without cars to get across town. The centre is also running a cycle maintenance programme, so residents can learn to maintain their own bikes and keep them in action for longer.
The MP visited the Cycle Café along with South East Holderness Ward Councillors Lyn Healing and Claire Holmes, where they met with Simon Hartley, Team Lead at SHoRes, and Claudine Robinson, who is the manager of the SHoRes Community Pantry opened last October, to hear about progress on the new café and to see the work for themselves.
The café is expected to open this month in Valley Gardens, opposite the SHoRes Centre’s main site on Seaside Road. The building is being leased from Withernsea Town Council and has been completely gutted out to ensure that it is compliant with hygiene regulations.
Local MP Graham Stuart is currently helping the centre to source donations of units and worktops for the café’s kitchen and is hopeful that these can be delivered in the next fortnight, to allow the café to open as soon as possible.
Graham commented, “It’s always a pleasure to visit SHoRes, who do so much fantastic work for the community in Withernsea. It was great to hear more about their latest initiatives from Simon and Claudine.
“I want to support places like SHoRes as much as I possibly can, because ultimately they’re at the frontline of our recovery from Covid-19, helping those who’ve been impacted the most by the fallout from the pandemic.
“They do an amazing job and I can’t wait until the café’s grand opening.”
