Graham and Cllr Sean McMaster have visited the Northern Powergrid van at Easington, which has come to the village following over a year of power cuts.
Residents had been writing to Graham, Sean and Cllr Lyn Healing (who was unable to join on Friday due to an East Riding cabinet meeting) about regular power cuts which have had a terrible impact on businesses and residents across the villages of Easington, Skeffling, Albrough and beyond.
Earlier in the day, Graham had visited the Spurn Bird Observatory and the Crown and Anchor in Kilnsea, both of which had been having problems with power outages at times which had a detrimental effect on business.
Northern Powergrid were summoned to a meeting by Graham and South East Holderness councillors Sean McMaster and Lyn Healing where they committed to conducting works on cutting back trees and vegetation around the power lines and improve their customer service, including by sending vans to the affected villages.
Graham said: “Northern Powergrid is responsible for maintaining our power lines and they dropped the ball, allowing vegetation to get out of control and no plan for adverse weather conditions.
“They’ve done a great job in making improvements and engaging with the communities and I want to see this continue.
“Cllrs Sean McMaster and Lyn Healing have done a terrific job on this, keeping in regular contact with Northern Powergrid and residents, doing just what great councillors do.”
Cllr Sean McMaster and Cllr Lyn Healing said, “Residents have been expressing their concerns to us regarding the frequent power outages.
"Outages have left many residents in a vulnerable position and local businesses unable to operate, sometimes for hours at a time”.
“We’re happy that Northern Powergrid are taking steps to resolve the situation and it was great to see them in person at Easington.
“We hope residents can be safe in the knowledge that Northern Powergrid is taking their concerns seriously and taking steps to ensure we have power.”
