On Friday 19th September, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart met concerned residents in Keyingham who are angry about ongoing problems with surface water in the village.
Commenting on the meeting, Graham said, “A number of Keyingham residents wrote to me in utter frustration over problems with surface water flooding in the village when it rains for just a few hours. People are annoyed that nobody seems to be taking responsibility for the problem and they feel the Council is passing the buck to Yorkshire Water and vice versa.
“I stepped in to try to broker a resolution and asked East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Yorkshire Water to each send a representative to the meeting so responsibilities can be defined and commitments made to work together to deal with the problem.
“The meeting was useful to highlight the complexity of the problem and I’m pleased that both the Council and Yorkshire Water have made a commitment to doing some investigative work to get to the bottom of the problem and resolve it.”
East Riding of Yorkshire Councillor for South East Holderness, Arthur Hodgson added, “There’s obviously an issue with flood water in the village; one resident has complained of sewage flowing down the street after heavy rainfall which is clearly unacceptable. I welcome Graham’s intervention and hope that getting everybody into one meeting will help to define the problems, identify solutions and outline responsibilities for getting it sorted out.”
