Graham is urging people in Hornsea and the surrounding villages to turn out in record numbers for the Save Our MIU protest at the town’s hospital, which will take place from 10.30am on Saturday 19 November.
The rally will allow local people to display their opposition to East Riding CCG’s closure plans for the Minor Injuries Unit at Hornsea Hospital, which would leave them facing a long round trip into Beverley for urgent care – or potentially further if the Beverley MIU is also closed.
Graham, who has been leading the campaign against the closure plans together with the Hornsea Hospital League of Friends, organised a successful rally at the Hospital in June and hopes the turnout this time round will be even higher.
Graham is also sending constituents a draft letter which they can sign and send on to the CCG’s freepost consultation to register their objections to the plans. The CCG survey contains no option to express opposition to the closure of Hornsea and Withernsea’s MIUs.
Graham said, “The rally this Saturday is a great opportunity for people in Hornsea to turn out in large numbers and tell East Riding CCG that they don’t want to see their Minor Injuries Unit close down next year, leaving them to face long journeys for help on country roads. The CCG’s consultation risks leaving people in Holderness high and dry and it’s really important that local health chiefs can’t hide away from the scale of opposition to their proposals.
“As well as coming to the rally, people should also write to the CCG as part of their consultation before this closes in January. Everyone is being sent a copy of a letter they can send to the CCG’s freepost address and you can find further details on my website, www.grahamstuart.com.”
