Graham visited Long Lane Junction with Woodmansey Parish Councillors to discuss how to improve it.
Long Lane is designated a quiet zone in the town and was built for residents, dog walkers and cyclists to use. However the increasing use of the junction since the construction of the new housing development and the road’s poor design has caused numerous near misses with pedestrians.
In response to emails from several constituents, Graham spoke to the Managing Director of Bellway, Jim Brooks, about this issue. He also visited the junction earlier this month to examine the issue for himself and meet the Chair of Woodmansey Parish Council, Cllr Kerri Harold, Cllr Amanda Beale and Cllr Phil Bown to see how this can be improved.
From these discussions he learned that the Highway Team at ERYC and Bellway Homes are working hard to resolve this issue. This includes working together to rectify issues on the road which have become apparent since the junction was constructed, including drivers not obeying the signage which tells them that they can only drive straight ahead. ERYC has also provided CCTV coverage to Bellway Homes which confirms the junction is being abused.
Cllr Kerri Harold, Chair of Woodmansey Parish Council, commented: “The Parish Council would like to thank Graham for his support in this matter and look forward to working with him along with local residents to resolve this.
Graham Stuart said: “From my visit to Long Lane Junction it is clear that there is an issue which needs to be resolved. Bellway are keen to assist and find a mutually acceptable solution and I will continue to work with them and ERYC until this junction is a safe place for everyone to use.”
