Graham has urged vigilance on anti-social behaviour now the weather is starting to improve, following a meeting with the police on Swinemoor in Beverley.
Over the past two years there has been a concerted effort to build a partnership between the Swinemoor community and police to reduce anti-social behaviour, which resulted in a 43% reduction from summer 2022 to summer 2023 around St Nicholas Green.
Graham is renewing his call, alongside the local police, for the community to continue to work with the police and report any instances of anti-social behaviour they may see.
It’s clear this approach is working, with sharp reductions of anti-social behaviour on Swinemoor following community meetings in 2022 and 2023, hosted by Graham, showing that reporting leads to a greater police presence, and consequentially causing a deterrent effect on anti-social behaviour.
Graham is encouraging residents to call 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress, whenever they see an incident of anti-social behaviour, no matter how small. He is also encouraging residents to join the local Neighbourhood Watch.
Graham will continue to support Swinemoor, and any other areas which come forward, with their efforts to fight anti-social behaviour.
This is part of Graham’s commitment to be tough on crime, which includes supporting the recruitment of 365 new police officers for Humberside since 2019, his successful push for tough new laws to tackle hare coursing and supporting the Rural Crime Team, which has presided over an incredible drop in rural crime, including a 62% drop in farm thefts, 70% drop in ATV/Quad/Trailer thefts, 71% drop in fuel thefts, 81% drop in criminal damage and a 100% drop in livestock thefts.
Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, said: “People on Swinemoor want to live in a safe neighbourhood, and that’s why I’m calling for vigilance from the fabulous community there. To bring down anti-social behaviour, there needs to be a genuine threat that those responsible will be caught and punished. That means making use of our amazing neighbourhood policing team and telling them about anti-social behaviour as it happens. We can drive down anti-social behaviour even further; it requires community action. I know the people of Swinemoor are up to the task and will continue to work in partnership with the police.”
Inspector Matt Wilson of Beverley and Haltemprice Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "We don't want to see anti-social behaviour taking root on Swinemoor again - and that means the police working with the community. Whilst anti-social behaviour reports are low in comparison to previous years, we encourage the public to report if this picks up again. The public are our eyes and ears when we aren’t around so if we don’t know about it, we can’t do anything. Let’s continue to work together - report online, on 101 or in an emergency on 999. If we know about it happening, we can take appropriate actions to ensure Swinemoor is safe for everyone."
