Responding to today’s article in The Hull Daily Mail stating that East Riding Clinical Commissioning Group is considering closing the Minor Injuries Units in Hornsea and Withernsea owing to financial pressures facing the CCG, Graham Stuart MP said: “The health needs of coastal communities should be understood and accommodated – not jettisoned in the face of financial pressures. Towns like Hornsea and Withernsea have elderly populations, high levels of disability and huge influxes of visitors in the summer. The people who live there are not to blame for the fact that half the areas these units would naturally service are in the North Sea. “Why is it that the specific needs of urban communities are always afforded additional support but those in rural and coastal areas are to be sacrificed? “I will be meeting campaigners as a matter of urgency and making sure that the community’s voice is heard as it was in the past when these vital services were last threatened.” The Hull Daily Mail article referred to above can be accessed here: http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Uproar-minor-injuries-units-face-axe-Hor… Photograph: Graham with the late Kate Monkman in 2014, Withernsea MIU's Nurse Practitioner.
