Beverley and Holderness MP, Graham Stuart, is delighted to hear Historic England’s announcement about the opening of its Everyday Heritage Grants: Celebrating Working Class Histories. These grants fund community-led and people-focused projects that aim to further the nation’s collective understanding of the past.
Historic England is inviting applications from community or heritage organisations for grants of up to £25,000. They are particularly interested in funding smaller grass roots projects of less than £10,000. Applications are now open and close on Monday 23 May 2022.
Historic England is interested in preserving our everyday heritage. From council estates, pubs and clubs, to farms, factories and shipyards, the places where most people have lived, worked and played for hundreds of years. They want to explore untold stories and celebrate the people and places at the heart of our history. They are looking at projects in rural and coastal communities as well as industrial and urban ones.
Graham Stuart MP said, “Historic England is offering fantastic grant opportunities for local communities and heritage organisations for projects that celebrate working class histories. This part of our heritage has been overlooked and it’s great news that the time has come for us to honour the past through council estates, pubs, clubs, farms or shipyards. I would therefore urge local communities, groups and heritage organisations to apply for a grant to help fund projects that would bring history back to life.”
