Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, has welcomed the recent news that TransPennine Express are set to install new defibrillators at all 19 of their managed stations as well as on all 44 of their new Nova trains.
Funded by a partnership of transport organisations including Network Rail, Northern, and TransPennine Express themselves, the news means that residents across Beverley and Holderness will benefit from better access to the life-saving devices.
Commenting on the news, Graham said: “I’m delighted that my constituents will now have access to defibrillators at nearby Brough, Hull and Scarborough as well as on all the new TransPennine Express services operating from these stations.
“Through my CADEY campaign I’ve been working to achieve full defibrillator coverage throughout Beverley and Holderness as well as increasing public awareness of where they are and how to use them.
“Bystanders attempt to perform CPR in less than half of all paramedic-attended out-of-hospital cardiac arrests, and every minute without CPR and/or defibrillation reduces someone’s chances of survival by 7-10%; that’s why it’s so important to increase the public’s knowledge of where the defibrillators are and how to perform CPR while you wait for one to arrive.”
On 4th October, Graham visited two new defibrillators in Elstronwick and Skeffling, which have been part-funded by CADEY in partnership with Help for Health. The number of communities in Beverley and Holderness without a defibrillator has reduced from 60 to 36 over the past eighteen months, while, in March, NHS Providers agreed to support the CADEY template and roll it out to NHS Trusts.
