Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, welcomes the great news that most single bus journeys in Beverley and Holderness will be capped at £2 for another 3 months until 30th June.

As part of the Government’s ‘Help for Households Campaign’, the Government is investing up to £75 million to introduce a fare cap on over 130 operators in England, outside London.

They estimate that because of this investment in our bus network, over 95% of single bus journeys will cost no more than £2. This cap was scheduled to end on 31st March, however thanks to additional Government funding this has been extended by 3 months until 30th June.

This will mean that people travelling from Beverley to Hull on the 23/X46/121 routes will save £3.10 on each journey, those travelling from Withernsea to Hull on the X7/75 routes will save £3.90, and if you travel from Hornsea to Beverley on the 25 route you will save £5.30 on a single ticket.

Stuart Fillingham, Head of Commercial at East Yorkshire Buses, commented: “We’re glad to support the £2 fare cap, especially when the cost of living is such a relevant issue for many of our customers. Travelling by bus is often the more inexpensive option, but with the introduction of this great-value fare cap, we’re looking forward to welcoming new and returning customers on board.”

Following this announcement, Graham Stuart MP said: “Everyone deserves to travel around Beverley and Holderness and the surrounding towns affordably, whether it be to get to the shops, doctors’ appointments or to visit friends and family. It is great news that the Government is extending the £2 fare cap which will continue to make a great deal of difference to everyone who uses our buses.”
