Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, has registered as Disability Confident Committed (level 1) as part of the Disability Confident scheme run by the Department for Work and Pensions, which supports employers to make the most of the talents disabled people can bring to the workplace.
The scheme encourages employers to think differently about disability and encourages them to improve the way they recruit, retain and develop disabled people. Employers are challenged to identify and remove barriers disabled people might experience whilst seeking employment. The scheme has 3 levels and each level must be completed before moving onto the next: Committed (level 1), Employer (level 2) and Leader (level 3).
There are currently over 20,000 employers in the UK who are Disability Confident, who are employing over 11 million people.
Graham said, “This is an absolutely fantastic opportunity and I would encourage all organisations to find out more and sign up. It is so important that jobs are accessible to all, particularly now more than ever as we come out the other end of the pandemic, and that disabled people are supported and encouraged into work and this continues throughout their employment. I am proud to be one of many employers who have registered for this brilliant scheme and I am keen to make a difference for disabled people.”
