Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, has secured uninterrupted access to cash in Withernsea with the opening of a new Banking Hub.
In May 2023 Graham promised to protect local people’s access to cash following the news that the Lloyds branch in Withernsea would be closing in March 2024. After months of meetings and updates with Cash Access UK and the South East Holderness Councillors, Graham is pleased that uninterrupted access to cash has been secured in Withernsea.
The new Hub opened this week at the SHoRes Centre on Seaside Road. This is its temporary location while Graham and Councillors Lyn Healing, Sean McMaster and Claire Holmes work together with Cash Access UK to find a permanent place for banking services in the town.
At the Hub, community bankers from five different banks will work on rotation during the week, with a different bank available each day of the week:
Monday: HSBC
Tuesday: Lloyds
Wednesday: Santander
Thursday: NatWest
Friday: To Be Confirmed
Customers of all major banks and building societies will also be able to carry out regular cash transactions from the Post Office counter service, every day of the week.
While this is positive news, there is more to be done. Graham will continue to have regular discussions with Cash Access UK and the local councillors to ensure a permanent location is found for the Hub at the earliest possible date.
Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK: “Opening a temporary Banking Hub in Withernsea today is a big step in the right direction. It means local residents and businesses can continue to access cash and face-to-face banking services while we work to secure a permanent home for the Hub. We’ll be able to provide an update on this to the community soon.”
South East Holderness Councillors Lyn Healing, Sean McMaster and Claire Holmes commented: “We were pleased to visit the new temporary Hub at SHoRes and are thoroughly impressed with what they have brought to our town. This is an important service which will allow residents and businesses to continue to access their cash. We will continue to work together with Graham and Cash Access UK to find a permanent location for the Hub as soon as possible.”
Graham Stuart said: “Whether you’re a small business in Withernsea or a pensioner, easy access to a bank is more than a nice service to have, it’s really important. That’s why I’m pleased the SHoRes Centre will be the home of the temporary Banking Hub, ensuring people in town have access to banking services after the Lloyds branch closes. However there is still more to do. Withernsea deserves a brand new high quality permanent Banking Hub in the town and I will continue to work closely with Cash Access UK to deliver this as soon as possible.”
