Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, has written to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, to ask if he will implement the reforms to dental services promised by the previous Government earlier this year.
In February Graham met the former Minister for Primary Care, Andrea Leadsom, to stress the need for more NHS dental appointments across Beverley and Holderness. Following this meeting, the Department for Health and Social Care published a policy paper which set out a range of measures to make it easier for people to see an NHS dentist.
The measures included deploying mobile dental teams into schools in under-served areas to provide them with dental treatments, giving 240 dentists across the UK a ‘Golden Hello’ to encourage them to practise in dental deserts such as Beverley and Holderness, and reforming dental contracts.
Graham will continue to have regular meetings and updates with NHS England, the Integrated Care Board and local health executives to take the necessary steps so local people get the high quality care they need when they need it.
Graham commented: “We need to improve dentistry capacity in Beverley and Holderness urgently. The reforms set out by the previous Government were an important step towards delivering this, which is why I have written to the new Secretary of State to ask him if he will implement these common sense solutions.”
