Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, joined the Beverley Wombles on a litter pick to keep our town tidy.
He was joined by the Chairman Paul Coe and five volunteers who spent some time tidying up Hull Bridge Road and the adjoining roads. Graham enjoyed chatting to people walking their dogs and hearing about the successful Coronation Litter Pick they organised earlier this month. In total they filled eight bags of rubbish and had a great time doing so.
The group was founded by Ronald Keuning in Spring 2018 after he became frustrated at the amount of litter he saw while walking his dog in Beverley. Since then the group has flourished; they have collected over 1300 bags of rubbish so far this year and have over 1600 followers on Facebook. Their aim is to keep our streets clean, raise awareness about littering and ensure people have fun socialising while doing so.
Paul Coe, Chairman of The Wombles of Beverley, said: “It was fantastic to be joined by Graham as we tidied up Hull Bridge Road and the surrounding areas. So far this year we have collected over 1300 bags of rubbish and it would be brilliant if anyone who wants to join us gets in contact via our website to meet new people and help us keep Beverley clean.”
Following the litter pick, Graham Stuart MP commented: “The Beverley Wombles do a marvellous job bringing people together who are passionate about keeping our town tidy and want to make new friends while doing so. I enjoyed spending time with them and recommend that everyone gives litter picking with them a go as it’s really rewarding.”
