Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, got a sneak peek of the new Hornsea Banking Hub as it prepares to open in the town.
After months of meetings and updates with Cash Access UK, Graham is pleased that access to cash is secured in Hornsea.
This will be the first Banking Hub in Beverley and Holderness and will be located in Newbegin where Poundland used to be. It will be a vital resource for many people in the town; offering convenient access to cash and in-person banking services when it opens on Friday 8th December.
Graham received a tour of the site from the Post Office Project Manager Peter Singh, Integral Project Manager Jonny Walker, and the Manager of the Banking Hub Andrew Phipson. He was also joined by the ward Councillor for North Holderness, Barbara Jefferson.
During his visit the staff explained that community bankers from five different banks will work on rotation during the week, with a different bank available on each day of the week:
Monday: Barclays
Tuesday: Lloyds
Wednesday: HSBC
Thursday: NatWest
Friday: Santander (Afternoon)
Graham welcomed this news as he continues to work to protect people’s right to choose whether to bank online or in-person.
Staff also explained that customers of all major banks and building societies will also be able to carry out regular cash transactions from the Post Office counter service, every day of the week.
Graham is aware of the concerns that people have as banks close, that's why he is continuing to work with Lyn Healing, Sean McMaster and Claire Holmes to deliver a high quality Banking Hub in Withernsea in the new year.
Andrew Phipson, Manager of Hornsea Banking Hub, said: “It’s a privilege to be the operator of Hornsea’s new Banking Hub. The community have been extremely supportive and are happy to have a dedicated location to come in and do their banking. I know our hub will help to support local businesses on the high street and safeguard access to cash for those who need it.”
Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK: “I am very pleased to confirm the opening of the new Hornsea Banking Hub, offering local residents and businesses important access to cash services.”
Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart commented: “Easy access to face-to-face banking is not a luxury, it is a vital service. That’s why after months of work I am delighted that Hornsea will be the first town in Beverley and Holderness to get a Banking Hub. Whether you’re a small business or pensioner, this will give you the freedom to manage your money in the way that is best for you.”
