Families across Beverley and Holderness are paying too much for energy. Graham is challenging the Government to adopt a simple plan that could cut £200 from energy bills, as households face further rises this summer.
With prices expected to increase again in July, energy costs are continuing to drive the cost of living crisis locally. When energy goes up, everything goes up.
Graham has taken action after hearing directly from residents about rising energy bills.
Lisa from Beverley told him she is struggling to keep up with rising costs and is worried about what the next increase will bring.
The Cheap Power Plan sets out how bills could be cut by around £200 by reducing the taxes and extra green charges added on top of the global price.
Graham said: “Families here are already under real pressure, and with prices expected to rise again, many are worried about what comes next.
“We can’t control the global price of energy, but we can control what we add on top. Right now, bills are loaded with taxes and levies that push costs higher.
“This is a simple plan that could cut around £200 from energy bills. There is nothing stopping the Government doing this now if it chooses to.
“We are in a cost of living crisis. People need action, not delay.
“When I was Energy Minister, we stepped in to support families during the Ukraine crisis and helped people across the country with their bills. That showed what government can do when it focuses on people’s lives.
“Now we need to take the next step and bring costs down.”
The Plan
The plan would deliver the £200 cut to bills by:
- Scrapping VAT on household energy
- Removing carbon taxes on electricity generation
- Ending legacy green levies
- Backing British oil and gas production
Graham has been using evidence from local residents to push for action. He has raised energy costs and rural unfairness with ministers, secured support for off-grid households reliant on heating oil, met local businesses facing rising costs, and taken residents’ experiences to Parliament.
