Cost of Living Crisis Will Bite As Inflation Hits 3.5%

Graham has responded to the news that UK inflation has risen to 3.5%, warning that the increase is a sign of Labour’s misplaced priorities and a departure from the steady economic management under the Conservative government.

Graham is encouraging residents to use his Support Hub, which aims to bring together various different sources of support during this cost of living crisis. It is available at www.grahamstuart.com/SupportHub.

Graham has called on Labour to focus on bringing down the cost of living rather than pursuing ideological pay rises for striking train drivers and halting new oil and gas licenses in the North Sea, causing household bills to rise.

When the Conservatives left office in July 2024, inflation was at 2%. Economic growth was the highest in the G7 and the Conservatives had put an extra 400,000 people in work.

Labour’s policies, including the Jobs Tax, have seen unemployment soar by 100,000 to over 1.6 million while long-term economic growth has stagnated.

Graham criticised Labour for focusing on foreign policy distractions, such as giving the Chagos Islands to Chinese ally Mauritius, while failing to tackle the cost-of-living pressures at home.

He added that the Conservatives had laid strong economic foundations through sound fiscal discipline, targeted support for those in need, and a clear plan to return stability after the pandemic and energy price shocks.

Graham said, “Today’s figures are deeply concerning for families and pensioners across Beverley and Holderness who are already feeling the pinch.

“Under the Conservatives, we brought inflation down from double digits to under 2%, helping households plan for the future and businesses invest with confidence. Now, just months into this Labour government, inflation is heading in the wrong direction again.

“While inflation rises and interest rates bite, Labour seems more interested in rewriting colonial history than addressing the economic challenges that matter to working people today. Their priorities are all wrong.”

“Britain can’t afford a government that’s asleep at the wheel. The Conservatives have a track record of putting the economy and British families first. We will continue to hold Labour to account for every penny lost and every distraction pursued at the expense of the people we serve.”
